NPP confirms Farouk Aliu Mahama as parliamentary candidate for Yendi

The decision forms part of five resolutions passed by the NPP's national executive committee in a meeting on Tuesday (9 April)

The national executive committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday (9 April) confirmed Farouk Aliu Mahama as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Yendi.

The decision forms part of five resolutions passed by the NPP’s national executive committee in a meeting on Tuesday (9 April).

The move comes after an earlier parliamentary primary held on Saturday (27 January) in Yendi saw the destruction of ballot papers resulting in the suspension of the announcement of the results.

Subsequently, some supporters of the party in the constituency urged the national executives of the party to nullify the parliamentary primary for the constituency.

The 27 January primary was between incumbent Yendi MP, Farouk Aliu Mahama, and the chief executive officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah.

A statement signed by the general secretary of the NPP, Justin  Kodua Frimpong said, “The national executive committee has confirmed Hon. Farouk Aliu Mahama as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency”.
