Lloyd Amoah: 13th African Games reignited oneness of Ghanaians

Team Ghana finished sixth on the medal table with a record 68 medals at the just-ended 13th African Games held in Accra and Cape Coast

The director of the Centre for Asian Studies at the University of Ghana, Prof Lloyd Amoah has said the just-ended 13th edition of the African Games hosted by Ghana from 8 to 23 March, reignited the spirit of oneness among Ghanaians.

Team Ghana finished sixth on the medal table with a record 68 medals at the just-ended 13th African Games held in Accra and Cape Coast.

The medal tally is the highest in the country’s history since 1973 in Nigeria where Ghana won 27 medals overall, seven gold, seven silver and 13 bronze.

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (25 March), Amoah said “I think it was fun, the atmosphere was electrifying and you could just feel the oneness of our country which sometimes I think we loose because we get involved in infantile politics.”

“But the truth is, we need to be one to do the things we have got to do, and I think we miss that, and sports tells us that we need to get that oneness to really really soar.”

Amoah added “There will be politics, but the politicians must understand the national call, because in the long run, we are all in this territory and we have a duty to hold it and pass it on to the next generation.”
