Eleven killed, 24 injured, two in critical condition in three separate accidents in Ashanti Region

At least 11 people were killed while 14 other victims survived with various degrees of injury in three separate accidents that occurred in the Ashanti Region, Sunday (28 April).

The first incident occurred at Dadwen, on the Fomena-Obuasi motor road where a Toyota Hiace, traveling from Dunkwa to Kumasi, collided with a trailer heading towards Obuasi from the Anwiankwanta highway.

The speeding vehicle reportedly lost control, swerving into the path of the oncoming trailer. A Jetta sedan with registration was also part of the collision.

The impact of the collision resulted in seven deaths, said Abdallah Boafo, the Adansi North District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

“Two died at the AGA Hospital and five others died at the Obuasi Government Hospital. That stretch has become an accident-prone area, and it is also under construction. But for now, we are investigating the cause of the accident”, he said.

The police at Ejisu are also investigating the circumstances that led to the second accident that killed four people. The incident occurred on the Yaw Nkrumah and Bonfa stretch on the Effiduase-Ejisu motor road. It involved another passenger bus which rammed into an oncoming trailer at about 4pm Sunday.

Officials tell Asaase News that the victims are yet to be identified.

In another development a collision involving a SANYONG vehicle and a truck on the Offinso-Koforidua stretch of the Kumasi-Techiman highway resulted in injuries to approximately twelve passengers, with two others in critical condition.

According to reports, the SANYOUG vehicle with registration number AS-6931-22 was traveling from Kumasi to Techiman when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to swerve out of its lane and collide with the side of the oncoming Articulator Vehicle.

The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon at 2:40 pm. Out of the 14 passengers on board the SANYOUG bus, twelve sustained injuries. The driver and another passenger of the SANYOUG are in critical condition and have been transferred to Offinso St. Patrick Hospital for further medical attention.
