Hassan Tampuli inaugurates board of GACL

The deputy minister of transport has charged the new board members to work at achieving the government’s agenda of making the country an aviation hub

Hassan Tampuli, the deputy minister of transport on Thursday (25 November) inaugurated a seven-member governing board of the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL).

Tampuli, who was standing in the stead of the Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, charged the board members to be committed to the call of the president in making Ghana the aviation hub of the West African sub-region.

He also cautioned them not to take over the role of management.

“I will entreat the board and management to work as a team to realise the objectives of the company.”

“I wish to remind the board that under the governance framework, they are to work under the supervision of the ministry and for that matter should not under any circumstances deal with other higher authorities without due consultations with the Transport Ministry,” Tampuli said.

He added, “My office is always available for all the necessary support. Don’t hesitate to call on the ministry when the need arises and I shall lend you the needed support to discharge your duties.’’

Paul Adom-Otchere, the board chairman of the GACL said he was delighted the newly elected members have been given clear policy directions to follow and they will be calling on the ministry regularly to be assisted.

“We thank you for the composition of the board. We look at the composition of the seven-member board and we see various expertise in there, summing up all that the company will need,’’ he added.

Adom-Otchere said the new board will work towards improving passenger numbers at the airport.
