Africa Legal Associates (ALA) and Africa Law Practice NG enter into strategic corporate alliance

The two Africa-focused firms ALA and ALP NG & Co will cross-sell and offer combined services and resources to legal markets across Africa

The full-service corporate law firms Africa Legal Associates (ALA) in Ghana and Africa Law Practice NG & Company (ALP NG & Co) in Nigeria have entered into a partnership to serve clients on what is a growing, continentally connected professional legal services platform with a wider global reach.

Commencing July 2016, several law firms entered into formal arrangements to form the ALP International Practice Group across Africa. This alliance has grown as of March 2024, with Africa Legal Associates becoming the latest ALP international partner in Ghana.

Together with ALP Advocates Uganda, the regional ALP East Africa (covering Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, together with the soon-to-join Rwanda) ALP NG & Co has created a significant footprint of legal expertise across Africa.

The ALA/ALP partnership

In a joint statement posted on their websites, www.alp.company and www.africalegalassociates.com, signed by Nana Adjoa Hackman, managing partner of ALA and Atinuke Odofin, managing partner of ALP NG Co, Africa Law Practice NG & Company announced that it had formed a strategic alliance with the respected Ghanaian firm.

“This alliance is now part of a thriving and purpose-driven, pan-African ALP International Practice Group. Together with ALP Advocates Uganda and ALP East Africa (Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan and Tanzania), we create a significant legal/professional solutions footprint of expertise across Africa.

“ALA in Ghana is a full-service pan-African firm with market-leading capabilities in various sectors and in-depth knowledge and experience. ALP NG & Co in Nigeria is a commercial law firm that brings together legal, business and policy expertise that underscores Africa’s growth. Both firms have multidisciplinary professional service practices,” the statement said.

“The two Africa-focused firms ALA Ghana and ALP NG & Co Nigeria will cross-sell and offer combined services and resources to the legal markets in Ghana, Nigeria and across Africa.

“Together, the ALP International Practice Group comprises specialists with shared values of integrity, pragmatism and diversity who work with leading technology providers to modernise legal functions across organisations, ensuring a seamless offering of professional services and solutions across the African continent while championing the emerging African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA).

“Our shared values of integrity, pragmatism, and diversity will ensure a seamless offering of professional services and solutions across our continent. We will continue to serve our clients on this growing continentally connected professional legal services platform with a wider global reach,” the joint statement further read.

ALA

ALA is a Ghanaian law firm with a pan-African vision. Its team of experienced lawyers, including partners, service mainly business clients from across Africa and beyond.

ALA’s lawyers are qualified to practise in Ghana, England and Wales, which, combined with its regional knowledge of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Continental Free Trade Area, as well as the firm’s membership of the Commonwealth Legal Network, enables it to provide integrated Ghanaian and international legal solutions for clients.

Africa Legal Associates has market-leading capabilities in several sectors and this in-depth knowledge and experience ensure that the firm is well equipped to navigate complex transactions and projects with the ultimate goal of delivering optimal value to its clients.

ALA’s mission is to deliver successful solutions for clients and to do so expeditiously with integrity and diligence, so that the clients trust them as worthy partners in achieving their goals.

ALA’s dispute resolution, commercial, corporate and M&A practice areas are globally ranked by Legal 500, a global organisation which for 33 years has been analysing the capabilities of law firms across the world, with a comprehensive research programme revised and updated every year to bring the most up-to-date vision of the global legal market by assessing the strengths of law firms in over 150 jurisdictions.

ALP

Africa Law Practice NG & Company (ALP) was established following a merger of Nigeria-based law practices as a full-service law firm, with its headquarters in Lagos and an office in Abuja.

ALP is the result of a carefully cultivated 25-year vision that delivers the very best of African legal and advisory services. By the end of 2019, it became necessary to make additions to the firm’s name and style, the company having established its brand, services and values and grown the network of allied firms across Africa. There was a need for further distinction and so it adopted “NG“, an internationally known symbol for Nigeria.

ALP is a commercial law firm that brings together legal, business and policy expertise that underscores Africa’s growth and has, within a short time, easily positioned ALP NG & Co as a leading corporate commercial law firm. As increased investment and rapid private sector growth in Africa transform the continent’s economies, the need for home-grown, regionally oriented and top-quality legal services has become constant.

The firm’s partners have over 100 years of combined experience in legal and business advisory services in Nigeria and internationally. Additionally, its expertise and network give it an advantage in helping its clients navigate Nigeria’s sometimes complex regulatory and public sector landscape.

ALP is Nigeria’s first truly African law firm and has further associations with ALP International (Mauritius) Ltd and allied law offices across the continent. Its Africa-wide trade practice with other ALP law firms across East Africa and beyond converges at www.alptrade.africa. Both Afro- and client-centric, ALP believes that it represents the future of legal practice on the continent.
